Southeast Missouri State University continues to bring dual education to Southeast Missouri by offering a new dental hygiene program. The program, which is offered through Missouri Southern University's Dental Hygiene and Dental Medicine Faculty, will meet the need for qualified dental hygienists in the region. The Southeast Faculty will offer science and general education courses in addition to science courses, while Missouri Southern will offer dental theory - based courses that will be held on Instructional Television (ITV) and online.

Together, the programs will ultimately improve the quality of life for residents of Sikeston, Rolla, St. Louis County and the rest of southeast Missouri, Gerecke said. The Dental Hygiene Curriculum will cover the necessary requirements for a Bachelor in Dentistry and a Master in Dentistry. Students enrolled in the dental hygiene program at both Sikestone and Rola will earn a degree in dental hygiene, he said, as well as a master of science in dental hygiene. Shaw said the cooperative nursing program, offered through a partnership between Missouri Southern University and Missouri State University, will be the foundation of future collaborative efforts.
