William R. "Bill" Miller, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at his home. He was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Chicago, the son of Roland S. Miller and Dorothy Stewart Miller. He and Velma Honey were married Oct. 24, 1950. She passed away in April of 1992.

WAPPAPELLO -- Daniel Wayne Helton, 66, died Aug. 14, 2008, at his home. Born Nov. 12, 1941, in Sikeston, to the late Daniel and Dortha Cox Helton, he had been employed at DeWitt Fabrication in Sikeston.

SIKESTON, Mo. — Those involved in food services at local school districts are sharpening their math skills to balance cafeteria budgets as a new school year begins amid higher prices.

SIKESTON, Mo. — No building in the Sikeston R-6 School District met state targets in all subgroups in both reading and math on the state standardized test — a trend nearly three-fourths of Missouri schools seemed to follow.

SIKESTON, Mo. — Sikeston students who participate in extracurricular and cocurricular activities will be subject to drug and alcohol testing beginning in early October.On Tuesday, the district's board of education approved 6-1 the adoption of a student drug testing policy.
